So we have heard about big government, small government, and no government. Tonight I experienced what GOOD government should be. My wife and I were driving home from DC and decided to stay overnight in Morristown, TN. Got there kinda late so we decided to grab some supper before checking into our hotel. In the later stage of dinner my wife became ill, something eerily similar to a problem she had once before. I plugged in "Emergency Room" in the GPS and hightailed it to where it sent me. I was dismayed that there was no hospital or ER there, but there was a fire station with EMTs on duty. I went in, found the folks on duty, and told them what was going on. They immediately took charge, put her on a stretcher, and headed for the hospital which, as it turns out, was quite close. By the time they got there they had done an EKG and other tests, giving the ER doc a leg up on what was going on.

THIS, in my opinion, is a role for government and I am damned happy that my tax dollars go to support these services.

Since you are posting this I assume she is doing OK.  Prayers for her.  God bless you both.

Thanks, and yes she is feeling much better. Kinda throws a kink in our plans to be back in Montgomery to watch the Auburn-Georgia football game, though. If we get to resume our journey we might have to listen on the sat radio or watch on the iPad if cell service is good enough along the way to use the phone as a hot spot.

Thanks. Staying over tonight as a precaution but we fully expect to be home by tomorrow evening.

Would like to give a shout out to the hospital staff here in Morristown. Competent, caring, and pleasant professionals.  John Doe would have trouble reconciling his views on "rednecks" if he experienced what we have in the past 24 hours.

Happy that everything seemingly has worked out.  Imagine that.....another successful, compassionate, efficient US healthcare outcome in Tennessee no less.  Not to mention on the fly .  Archie would say that it was the fault of the GPS for not taking you to the ER in the first place, and that this would never have happened in the UK.

I was on the plains yesterday for the game.  Happy for my Dawgs, and what a great game day experience Auburn puts on.  LOUD!
