No viable entity or business can be forced to provide free services to those who dont pay; costs cannot be absorbed forever; maybe Bernie, Pelosi,  & Eliz Warren will step up & share the wealth to cover some costs

I would love to know how they don't have the money to fund personnel, but they just built the urgent care center.  There was already one in town.  They complain about people going out of the community for medical services, yet the rate of specialists come and go that when you make an appointment with one, it is entirely likely that they will have left by the time your appointment comes around.  

They can whine about Medicaid funding, but the truth is, Alex City needs to aggressively attract good paying jobs to the area.  They paid $30,000 to have some study done that said franchises would be willing to come here if they had people with the money to open them, in other words, more fast food.  (like we don't already have enough).  They are so busy hosting "downtown" events which seems to me to be putting the cart before the horse.  They need to clean up that mess they have left in the wake of Russell, and find a way to attract businesses.  

I'll get off my soapbox now, but this is something that is so plain to so many people, but seems to be a mystery to Alex City officials.

Well said hound--most towns would salivate to have a 4 lane corridor connecting the states largest city to t; there are many fine people in AC but many still are in denial about Russell closing

Thank you.  I agree that there is too much living in the past.  I'm thinking that they need to hire someone that has dealt with attracting and revitalizing a place before.

I doubt it will take off as an events center.  It doesn't seem to have any charm.  And then there is the newer conference center that was built not too long before Russell closed down.  I believe it is owned by Ben Russell and no one seems to have any idea what he plans to with it.  I was wondering why they didn't put the Innovation Center there.  

I think that there are a lot of old timers that don't want anything to change.  One guy is redoing the old Frosens Department store building downtown to sell men and woman's specialty clothes.... does anyone ever do a demographics study before they decide what to do with a space?  

But as far as the hospital - one day I had to go to an urgent care and went to the new one.  There wasn't a soul in there, except my husband and I.

Ben Russell bought the Russell Sales Office (57 acres) back in 2015.  Maybe that is what Hound is referring to.
