The essayist is putting into text the hard details of very personal conversations that many of us have with ourselves. If you are not having such conversations, then you might be surprised about your situation when you die. For the truth is… because we Christians know ourselves so well… we are ALL counting on grace. And that… is the whole point.

No doubt we are all sinners and at the moment of death will be justly judged by a loving and compassionate God. What I particularly enjoyed about this essay is that it took a topic that all self professed Christians would agree is evil and applies the same argument and logic used on less universally agreed issues. No doubt you could replace idolatry with many other long accepted and understood grave sins that some so called Christians now claim are not sinful. To fool yourself is bad enough. But to lead others into sin is probably the worst offense of all. And there is plenty of that happening by those self proclaimed Christians and we are being told that it is worse for us to point out their error, to be "judgmental" than the sin itself. What a distorted and dangerous world we live in.

Ineresting. It's a shame if people worship such fleeting things as money, success, power, etc.

What's even worse is when they distort Christianity to fit their disordered passions and try to mislead or even coerce others to ascribe to their distorted world view. If you don't like the fundamental tenets of Christianity so be it. But to mislead yourself and others to justify your personal decisions is much, much worse. Woe be it unto them.......

In the age of the internet and cable television, the Christian message has become confusing and distorted… “Would Jesus Wear a Rolex?” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=76ohvqwsNkk
Joel Osteen has surely confounded my gentile stepmother for thousands… oh… did I mention she is 94 years old and he’s convinced her to invest in the “Stairway to Heaven”? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8pPvNqOb6RA
The proper investment is made on the road from Jerusalem to Jericho (Luke 10:30-36).
