Apparently Maria is dumping the Guvernator because he had a love-child over ten years ago. Funny how she waits until he leaves the Governors mansion and then dumps him. Such is politics but it is no wonder we hold political spouses in much lower regard when they "stand by their man" while he is in office and they are enjoying all the perks and then they split afterward.
My recommendation is Ahnold switch to the Democrat party for two reasons. One, he is more like a Democrat than a Republican anyway. Second, infidelity and out of wedlock babies are resume enhancers.

I don't know, I think the lack of judgement on personal matters is pretty much evenly divided on both sides of the aisle.
I don't blame her for dumping his butt. It's despicable that he would wait all this time to drop that little bomb. He supposedly just told her in January when he left office. Just imagine her humiliation, wondering if everyone else knew what she did not.

No doubt the lack of judgment is bipartisan but let's face facts, this does not hurt a Dems electoral standing but is much more damaging to a conservative. I had not heard he waited until January to tell her but you can be sure plenty of the enablers in his administration knew about this and it is indeed despicable.

I know Arnold is a famously Republican, but can you really say the guy is a conservative?
I'm somewhat amazed that in this day and age, that it happened 10 years ago and the story was never broken before this... Makes me wonder why he decided to come out with it now. I do feel sorry for his wife, just as I felt sorry for Elizabeth Edwards. I feel sorry for any spouse of a public figure who ends up being humiliated in the media, much less in their private lives.

He was a RINO from the outset but that is probably what it takes to get the Governorship in Taxifornia anyway. I mean they just recycled Moonbeam Brown for crying out loud.
I too feel sorry for some of these wives but I also think they are likewise attracted to the power and prestige of politics and often play the game. Another question in my mind is the appeal that men in politics have to women. There is a book out there called "Why Men Are the Way They Are" written by this guy who was a big feminist. He points out, with some merit in my view, that men behave they way they behave because of how women react to power, fame, fortune, etc. The message to men is if you want to mate with some nubile hottie and you aren't exceptionally good looking you can still get there with money, etc.
Dustin Hoffman had a great quote. He said before he was a famous actor women wouldn't come within 10 feet of him. Now he has to beat them away with a 10 foot pole. He is the same relatively unattractive guy but he now has money, fame, etc. and the women flock to him. Men, being the pigs that they are, see that and respond accordingly. There is lots of blame to go around with the infidelity business and if the women didn't throw themselves at the men and the men were not so weak there would be less of it happening.
Since I am on the subject I also have a theory about trophy wives to try out on you, My theory is that many guys who have started from the bottom so to speak and have worked their way up the ladder had original spouses who knew them when and were probably not fooled by their press releases. Then when they achieve success the gold diggers start to glom onto them and tell them how wonderful and brilliant and perfect they are while their first wives know better. Next stop....trophy wife.
Have I hijacked my own thread?!?!?!?

I do think that there are women that are very attracted to power and money. I know in Washington where money isn't as big a deal as power, I have seen women that would do anything to get close to the power. So of course they throw themselves at the men who hold the power. It's also a good boost to one's career to be close to power. Lots of ambitious women out there.
I think with trophy wives you are right. A lot of men of a certain status want someone whom they think other men will admire, and probably feeds their ego. Also someone that makes them feel young and desirable. The "old" wife likely isn't impressed as with the man as someone younger. And then there are the cash and lifestyle benefits that the younger women are impressed by and want. Lots of these women are just looking for a very comfortable, effortless life and they'll put up with a toad to get them.
Notice that trophy wives almost always have a child right away, to tie them financially to the man. If the marriage doesn't work out, they still have access to a certain amount of his money.

Turns out his out-of-wedlock son (the one with the housekeeper from Guatamalia) was born less than a week after his son with Maria.
What a sleaze.

Neal Boortz says the child looks just like Arnold. He thought, "How could anyone NOT know when looking at the ofrfspring?"

I love the scene on Everybody Loves Raymond when Marie says something to Frank about being his trophy wife. "Trophy wife? What contest in hell did I win?"
