I am sharing your grief.  My precious Nappy, who would be 13 in October, was diagnosed with inoperable cancer in the liver and spleen 8 days ago. It is a day by day thing now. We have him on prednisone and 2 other meds which have him comfortable for now. We are facing your situation.  God bless you.

I understand and know what you are going through. I had to make the same decision a few years ago for my best buddy Abby a black lab who was 2 months shy of 16. Had her cremated and her ashes remain in a container on the dresser.

Now have a cat who will be 16 this year. Life isn't fair at times...remember the good times you had together. Take care.

Fly and Wood – Sorry for your losses, but what great memories they brought you.  Do you have pics of your pooches?  Great opportunity to show everybody pics of our “OLD” furry friends.  Here is my buddy – “The Doof”.  Rescue dog, Pit Mix, life friend and just turned 18.  Over the years, many in the Parker Creek area have seen her in the middle of the lake taking her “exercise” swim and thought she was in distress, but oh-no.  She was just going half mile out and half mile back.  These days she only swims at my beckoning in shallow water with my assist. But what a great Dog!!!

Sorry for yalls losses. The last one I had to put down was the Crocker Spaniel I adopted from this forum in 2001 I think it was. After I lost my human best friend last year I decided it was time for another four legged find and rescued the cutest little guy you ever saw. Unfortunately he turned out to be a WMD (worthless momma dog). He suffers separation anxieties when she leaves the house but he I'm still glad I rescued him from his situation.

The love of a dog asks nothing in return and the companionship they provide is priceless.  We have had to put down at least half a dozen over the years and being long time pet owners we came to realize that pet ownership comes with the knowledge that we will outlive all but the ones at our side when we die.  We learned to cherish the good times we had with them and understand they served loyally for the time God allowed them to be with us.

Your precious pet is now serving the ultimate Master and smiling down on you.  Grieve, but be heartened by that knowledge.

We fully understand your grief.  Went through it ourselves a few years back.  When we lost our 4-legged son, a friend sent us the Rainbow Bridge poem.  It helped tremendously.  Even to this day, I read it often.  I hope it helps.  https://www.rainbowsbridge.com/Poem.htm.  Always remember the good times, treasure them and they will help you through.

My heart goes out to you, because I can imagine what you are feeling.  Last year we lost our beloved German Shorthaired Pointer, quite suddenly.  They just come into our lives and our hearts and take a piece with it  when they go.  It's the worst feeling in the world.

You did the most loving, selfless thing for her.

We also lost our best friend of 15 years back in December and it still hurts. They are more than a pet they are family!
