I thought I was on them several times today but we caught nothing but an actual stick....we around the Kowaliga area. Can anyone help me with finding some stripe bass to hook up with?? Thanks. I live in Deatsville and drive up to the ramp off 63 to Kowaliga to put in. Are there any good spot near there? Thanks.

We took a crew out yesterday afternoon even though the striper bite slows down to little or nothing after 11:00 a.m. and doesn't pick up again until the sun starts going down. We marked individual fish in front of the amphitheater, near Tallasee Slough and under the wires. We also marked a couple of schools in the back of Wares Slough. The graph indicated that we were putting baits right n their noses, but we only found one that was willing to take a boat ride. At this time of year we prefer to get out early to take advantage of "the jump". The fishing is great when they're busting shad on top. Expect to see much larger numbers of stripes all along the edges of the main river channel as the water heats up. Good luck and stay tooned....

Thank you sooo much!! We figured it was too late in the day but the lake was beautiful anyway. I also spotted fish in those areas with none biting. I also spotted a large group under the middle right part of Kowaliga bridge. I have some topwater pop-n stripe lures I used to use. Where can I get good LIVE BAIT from??? Thanks again.

I still have a few live shad (see earlier post). They are the best bait, and really the only bait for fish over 20-25, IMO. If you are not wanting to spend much or cannot keep shad alive, try: big shiners, black saltys, or suckers to get you started. I do not know where to buy any bait right now that isn't already listed on the forum. Also artificials work well this time of year, but again, I have never had good luck on trophy fish with artificials. If you are trying to get serious about catching big stripe, I would get set up to keep shad.

Thank you for the information. I am very interested in using live bait and going for the large stripe bass. I have a live well on my boat so I can keep them alive on water. I used a spoon and a sassy shad the other day to no avail but in all fairness we were out there at a bad time with clear hot weather. The fish were at the very bottom and we just could not get them to come up. I am going up Sunday morning and getting on the water by 6am. I will try top water if I see them on top but if not I will be buying some shad. Thanks again.
