Thinking about renovating our lakehouse. Will be both structural, additions, and wall tearouts. Old Russell cabin that had been added onto over year years, it is nice but want to make it our retirement home with modern amenities and finishes.
Any recommendations would be appreciated.
Thank you !!!

We were at a similiar crossroad 4 years ago when trying to decide whether to remodel our 31 year old Jim Walter style home, or tear down and start fresh. We got a couple of bids to remodel, but it was going to cost more that we had anticipated, plus there were several areas where we were going to have to compromise such as a cut up floor plan that just didn't flow, and areas of the house that would remain untouched such as the kitchen and a couple of the bedrooms which were rather smallish. When we considered that with a rebuild, we would be getting a solid foundation; rooms sized to our satisfaction; new efficient windows; hardi board exterior; walk-in closets; a more robust electrical system; new flooring; a more efficient HVAC system; foam insulation; a large kitchen laid out the way we wanted; and a floor plan that actually flowed, it just made sense to start fresh. I highly recommend that you consider this option. We used John Hutto for our architect (312-6431) and Tim Easterling (799-3579) for our builder. Very pleased with both and very fortunate that we were able to build when we did in 2018!

I only know two architects, your friend archie and George Costanza, but I wouldn't recomend either...lol. But on the upside lumber prices are tumbling back down to earth. Futures yesterday were at around $800 per 1K board ft., down from over $1700.

Lifer agree on lumber prices, we are not in a big hurry, so hoefully prices will continue with their downward movement :)
