It doesn’t matter to a log truck driver… the mud that is. It is WAY to much trouble to even consider how inconsiderate it is to track all of that mud… and rocks… onto the roadway. After all… log truck operators are SPECIAL. If I were an enterprising police chief, there would be some BIG bucks waiting at every entrance to a clear-cut operation. “Creating a public hazard.”  I’d make that a $150 fine. Imagine the run a log trucker couldn’t make if he had to stop and explain why he trashed up the highway.

If it added one penny to the cost of a paper bag… it would be worth it.

By the way… other states have laws which prohibit fouling the highways by logging and construction operations. Those states are cleaner… and safer. (hmmmm… but, I still wouldn’t leave Alabama to move back to either one of those.)

It seems sad… the need to legislate common courtesy.

Maybe you should visit their work site and explain how unpleasant it is for you. Remember to mention how special you think they are(that will go a long way). Also teach them how those other states remove the mud from their trucks before entering the roadway. Education is key to any operation. You may also want to contact the local law agencies and file a report. Good luck with your efforts to clean up our roadways here in Alabama. Thanks for your concern and all your help in stopping these hazards. Oh one more thing, you may want to mention how disgusting it is to have all the dead animals on the roadways. I am not sure but other states must train their wildlife proper safety in crossing the road. That may take a visit to the state capital to get results but it would be well worth the effort. Until then, I'll just try and straddle the mud tracks for my own safety and mental health.

It IS against the law for log trucks, or anyone else, to dump mud from their vehicles on the roads.  Call the State Trooper office and/or Sheriff and give them location, etc.  I've seen loggers in the road with shovels cleaning up while the Trooper stood over them with blue lights twirling.  Take your beef to the proper folks.

when i asked the County to put up some "Please Dont Litter" signs in our area--I was curtly told by a secretary--"we dont do that anymore--it encourages people to litter " !! when I inquired why they put up STOP signs, she was silent.I politely asked her name & reminded her who paid her salary
