These are the given names of young men who have worked long and hard for recognition in an extra-curricular activity that has demanded much from them. They will become part of a university "family" and will provide countless hours of entertainment for their "families". A few will continue to succeed at athletics and enjoy pro careers. But most will become educated productive citizens of this great nation. Unfortunately a few will fail at life's challenges just as many other young people from all walks of life do. I look forward to watching these young men grow and succeed. And as many others in our state I look forward to watching them on the gridiron. WAR EAGLE

I only hope that when these young men "become educated productive citizens of this great nation" they will think long and hard about the naming of their children and not subject them to the possibility of ridicule. Having your name consistently misspelled, mispronounced and generally misunderstood by many people is quite a burden for a child to carry.

Yes, I do happen to know Jawara. He's from our hometown. He's a really good kid with a bright future. He's smart and a good athlete - a true asset to AU!
