MM I have just been scrolling through some of the back and forth between you and GF over the last few days. GF posted a table of the deaths in Iraq and you responded with a comparison to Viet Nam and WW II casualties pointing out that they were conflicts "started" by Democrats! While we may agree on Viet Nam, I am astounded that you put WW II in the same basket. Surely you are not claiming that WW II was unnecessary? Do you think US participation would not have occurred under a Republican president? Now, you usually obfuscate or change the subject rather than actually giving a direct answer to any difficult question, but in this case you need to give a direct answer for the sake of your own credibility. Do you consider WW II a conflict we should have avoided? If yes please explain how you come to such a conclusion. I would also be interested in your opinion of the necessity of a "Republican" war...The American Civil War!

Which is neither amazing or scary. Archie, if you read history beyond what was in your textbooks in your lousy, north Georgia school you would realize that in fact FDR maneuvered us into WWII and that the Japanese attacking us was no surprise. FDR pretended to be an isolationist in the election leading up to WWII but was already taking actions that would lead us to war with either Germany or Japan or both. That Japan attacked us first is just the way the inevitable happened, but not the only way.
I do find it interesting that my point that FDR got us into WWII in your mind means i think it was unnecessary. Oh how the mind of a left wing nut works. Here's a news flash Archie, sometimes it makes sense to start a war....not just sit around and wait for the first punch to be thrown. I know it flies in the face of your Coexist and War Never Solved Anything bumper stickers but it is in fact historically true and accurate.
Honestly, get your head out of Mad Magazine or whatever you read and get educated. I recommend the Churchill biography (3rd volume covers the war but the 2nd volume near the end does as well). I never said WWII was unnecessary just like I don't think Afghanistan or Iraq were unnecessary. I know you do but that is nothing new. If you weren't so ignorant you would also know that there was a large and vibrant anti-war movement in the U.S. leading up to and during the war. But it was a different time and the govt and press treated it differently than we do today. So you are nothing new Archie.......it's all been done and said before and there is no doubt FDR got us into WWII.....which was a good thing in the long run. But had the American people known then what we know today about FDR's provocations they might not have been so surprised we were attacked or that Germany immediately declared war.
I would like to say I am surprised or disappointed by your ignorance but that just would not be true......

Don't obfuscate for once. You implied, perhaps unintentionally, in your reply to GF; that WW ll was an unnecessary war and you are now trying to wiggle out of it by suggesting that FDR should have acted earlier rather than scheming behind the scenes to get us involved. Interesting how you completely ignored my question about "Republican"* Abe Lincoln's Civil War and whether it was a just war.
* Today Lincoln would not be a Republican. I don't know what he would be, but he would not be a good fit in todays GOP. Neither would Ike, Ford, Reagan or Bush no I
BTW: Are you aware that FDR also "schemed" with his 1940 GOP opponent Wilkie to found a separate liberal political party of which they would both be members.
BTW again: I suspect most of your admirers on this site also have "gov't school" education........hum...maybe that fact proves your point about "gov't education".
