I know we have a lot of international travelers on this forum. We are planning a trip to Greece and the Greek islands next spring. Would appreciate any of the following information.
1. How many days do you need in Athens to see what is most important?
2. Would you visit other greek cities/sites out on Athens itself? If so, what would be your priorities?
3. What islands would be on your "must see" list?
Any other experiences in your travel to these areas would be appreciated.
Thanks

Greece ---you should have a great time. -If first time, then you shold spend three days in Athens. -Other cities: first trip means you should definitely see the major points of interest; Delphi, where the oracle spoke, and Olympia, where the games began. These two trips are interesting and will give you common points of discussion for the rest of your life when you meet otherss who have traveled thru Greece. _Islands: Again, for a first trip: the islands of Santorini, beautiful and everyone who visits Greece goes there, so again a common point for future discussions; Rhodes, cuz since you were a kid you heard of the Collossus of Rhodes as a wonder of the ancient world; Corfu, north part of island for great coastal towns; Mykonus for beatiful beaches and great restaurants, and finally Crete for beauty and historical and present day importance in hisory . -Over a thousand Greek islands; beyond the aove well-known ones, everyone has a favorite among the other smaller islands. -Hope you have a great time.

It has been over 20 years since my last trip to Greece but I would love to get back some day. You will love it! I agree with yankee for the most part except if you want to avoid the tourist crowds and scams you might consider getting to some of the Sporades Islands which are also in the Agean but further north than the Cyclades and not on the tourist "to do" lists. Also try to get to the proto Greek ruins at Myceanee (?sp) and the ruins at Corinth. By all means go to Cape Sunion on the coast south of athens for the sunset. I don't know what Maj is talking about. The Greek food (even Athens street food) is great. Oh, if you can, get out of the cities into some villages. Give us an update when you get back, and let me thank you for posting a rare comment that wasn't wholy anti-Obama political.
