How did the party of fiscal sanity, compassionate conservatism, and family values become the party of exploding deficits, Muslim bans, FBI hatred, and porn-star payoffs? What a huge shift over the last few years.

The same way that Democrats became the party of entitlements, freebies, robbing the rich to pay the poor, protecting illegal immigrants.
We've become a country of extremes. Both parties have become a characature of the principles they once stood for.

It seems to me that Democrats have traditionally been the party that pushed social programs and welcomed immigrants. I don't see such a huge shift in their policy as there has been in the Republican party. My father (deceased) was a life-long Republican and would not recognize this parties policys at all and would be appalled. My mother (also deceased) was a life-long Democrat and I think she would be fairly comfortable in the current party.

A recent article analyzed party platforms and suggested that Barry Goldwater would be a Democrat today. That’s how far the Republican Party has shifted. No question, the Democratic Party has also shifted. We need to get closer to the middle folks.

Casey, are you aware the South was at one time a solid Democrat voting region? Who changed... the people or the Democrat party?

Qman, those folks in the middle suffer a serious malady known as SMS (Severe Moderate Syndrome). They really have no ideology and don't know what they believe...they have absolutely nothing to offer. There is right and there is wrong...there is good and there is bad...those in the middle of those absolutes are just avoiding moral decision making...IMHO!

Its not that I disagree with you, its just that this winner take all mentality isnt working. The extreme polarization is taking a toll. Predictions are that the midterms will go to the deomcrats much more than to the republicans in Gingrich led 1994. That puts us on a see-saw this country can ill afford. We need to come up with candidates that are not extremists of either ideology. If we dont, we trade blows and dont get much done.

Just what have the Democrats had to moffer over the last eight years? Illegal immigrants are waiting at the border just waiting to come in and become part of the Democratic "machine".
What could be more embarrassing than watching what was once the greatest country in the world demonstrate to the world that we are not capable of implementing strong and workable immigration laws? The "wall" can't be built soon enough!
