I have used Alex City Guide Service about 2 years ago and was very satisfied.  It was early March and we trolled live minnows below Irwin Shoals.  Our boat caughr 6, all 7-8 lbs.  The other boat landed a 35 pounder.  The Capt. gave him a choice, have it mounted or release it.  He said he doesn't clean anything over 20 lbs.  I saw a great article in LAKE magazine profiling the guides on LM.  The type of fishing you do is dependant on the time of year.  If John C sees this post he can give you good advice.

Hey, I agree with the above. David Hare or any of his guides at Alex City Guide service are awesome. Not only are they effective, but are friendly and reponsible to our fishery (his release policy is a great example). I have hired him multiple times, over multiple years, in all different kind of seasons and weather. I will say this, if you go fishing that many times there will be days where you don't load the boat. One time we went in the spring with him and we only caught 2 small ones. But it was evident to me that David was working extremely hard to do everything he could. All other times I have been we have limited out and / or released a bunch.

Here's a link to one in a series of 3 videos where I interviewed David. https://youtu.be/UjzJUoR02PM

On a side note, another local person worth supporting is Alex Ray. He supplies live bait and will deliver to you. He drives up north and cast nets for huge and hardy threadfin shad- and does not sell (the illegal to Lake Martin) blueback herring. His number is 205-531-5051. His bait is about $3 each but when you consider the quality, and the effort it takes, it is a no brainer. He is committed to the bait business as his main livelihood.
