The tomato crop has taken a beating with the hot weather. But one plant continues to fight and provide fodder for a few more BLTs

Please provide GPS coordinates to this tomato plant and leave a money jar next to it. I haven't had BLT made with an honest tomato in years.
Thanks

My 4 plants look worse. Toast for this year. But,, but man oh man from early July thru late August those 4 soldiers provided a beautiful crop of delicious, ripe tomatoes that we shared with friends and neighbors. Food and Fun, easy and way too soon,,, Gone. Mater Sandwiches?? Tons. with Vidalia/bacon add/ons. My goodness. Maters are just magic.

Best. Thread. Ever.
Glad to see I am in the same boat as my forum pals. My tomatoes this year were best ever but heat... got 'em.
No complaints, however, as early I had best. crop. ever.

Not convinced that heat alone is the culprit. Just like different tomato types have different maturity dates, they also have IMHO a specific number of days where the yield is good on a healthy plant, then starts to taper off quickly, with smaller, lower quality tomatoes. You can trim them back, etc, etc, but, basically, they are toast.

What do you do to prevent weeds? I bought some manure in bags in Nebraska one time and had the most beautiful stand of weeds one could imagine. That same tomoato plot was weed free the year before so it had to be the manure.

There are tons of seeds in the dirt I bring from the farm, and I suspect the bags at the stores are full as well of tiny tiny weed seed ready for some sun soil and moisture. I just pull them often, especially in August. They go WILD in the hot humid conditions of August

I agree Mack. Many factors affect the mater crop, as well as all others. This year the biggiest problem was too much rain IMHO. I only harvested a couple of melons and cantaloupes. The rest split open way before ripening and what I read is that is caused from too much water.
As for manure, I can supply as much as any of you need from a bucket to a pickup load. I will do it cheaper than buying it by the bags. Good dry horse manure from under the pole barn so it is out of the weather and holds the nutrients. Tilling it in now is great for spring prep not to mention fall gardens. I am doing turnips, spinach, broccoli, and some type of leaf lettuce (probably Romaine).
