How much rain at the lake today so far? Have the winds been strong? We're getting it pretty good right now in Newnan.

Don't know how much rain we've had, but it's been raining steadily all day. We haven't had any wind to speak of in Parker Creek.

Newly stationed Air Force member and I was considering fishing Lake Martin for the first time this weekend. Does this lake get realty muddy with all the rain? Any input is appreciated.

It is muddy.  I can barely see my submersible lights, and one of the three is 400 watts.

Ask again on Friday, and I will give you an update.

From APCo website

Due to recent heavy rains, expect Martin lake elevation to rise and peak near elevation 486 on Friday, 3/11. Individuals with boats and water-related equipment and facilities should always stay alert to changing conditions and be prepared to take the necessary steps to protect their property.

Also per website they are running 3 to 4 turbines all day for the next 3 days.

This morning it's been updated to expect 488 by Sat., 3/12.

I think it's a typo. They actually repeated the Harris (Wedowee) info on the Martin update right below it, and it says 788' by the 12th. I almost bit on it too!

Does that mean they aren't going to let it get over 486 for awhile.  I thought this time of year they put the plug in and let is fill up.  I have seen it go up faster than this past week.

the rule curve hits 486 on Tuesday and goes up a few inches per day from there, so I believe it will keep on coming up.

Lake is stained, but should be no problem..  Crappie are biting and spring bassing is good.. Weather is going to be ideal, so come on over..  Signed, fellow USAF guy (retired) and thanks for your service, pal..

I assume you are at Maxwell and an Ohio boy? If I'm right, what part of the state? I was AF too and I grew up in Ohio......you have stumbled on a real treasure here in Alabama.

Grass is greening up, lake is up.  Will be glad to get winter behind us.
Can't let the lake fill too fast.  Still need room to hold water to prevent downstream flooding.

Thank you for the support. Yes sir I'm an Ohio guy, raised in the southern most tip in a city named Ironton (close to Portsmouth). Getting used to Alabama and it's not too terrible. The abundance of lakes and rivers helps with someone who loves to fish. Look forward to fishing Lake Martin.
