Subject:   Karis Park coming to an end?

Not sure whats going on at Karis Park, they have a house thats about 3' from falling into the lake. The erosion of dirt has created a 40 foot ravine on one side of the house. Probably 12-15 ft deep! The other side of the house has another ravine almost as bad. Their silt fence is almost under water offering no protection for the lake. TRAGIC! Been by on boate several times. Have not seen any activity in almost a week. Anyone knows whats going (or not) on?

Where exactly is Karis Park? How would I get there if I was at Pleasure
Point?

By boat: head towards Chimney Rock. Last slough before Chimney Rock (Big slough it is shared with The Village at Lake Martin & The Harbor. Both very nice developments. (also a/c from Ridge Marina) By Car: 50 & 49, jump on 50 towards Martin Dam (for 3.9 miles) veer right on W 90 - Scenic OverLook, right on McCarty, left on Old Tree. Drive past Marina Marin Estates 9where Coach Turberville lives) and past The Village at Lake martin. karis park at end of road. Cant miss it. Looks likes homes you would see on GA400 !

Here is waht i have heard.

1. They have no water (to the homes).
2. They have no agreement or hook ups for sewer.
3. They have no seawall
4. They have no docks.

They have not sold a single home and there was zero trafic over the holiday weekend...its over..its been over since the day they turned the property into a desert, removing all life from the area. Whoever buys the porperty will have to tear them down and start over in my opinion and it could be a decade before that happens. Tragic is the right word...

Let me add a little more to the backstory Bob!

Drove by there Memorial Day weekend after getting the tidbits below, hadn't seen it from the water since July and last time on the land was November 8th from across the slough.

Apparently they also ignored several instructions from APC shoreline management to initially put in one silt screen, then double silt screens. Then, more importantly, they also ignored instructions to install rip rap. BEFORE the foundations of the houses were in peril.

I believe they have been shut down twice by APC and once by ADEM. Clearly not a crew of geniuses running the construction operation.

You might also be interested to check out who the new "owners" of most of the completed for-sale units are, and for whom they work.

If they are running out of money, and have no legitimate buyers, you may get to watch one tumble into the lake if someone doesn't do something fast!

I saw the house you spoke of this weekend. Incredible! the house is literally going to cave if we get a tropical storm. The idiocy of this development has to be the poster child of the boom real estate market. No way the banks would lend money to somehting this flimsy now. They should be shut down by ADEM at this point....

I say we have a petition signed to pass to the state legislature and have AL take it over as public land..... Cabins and RV units, with State owned Marina....

P.P. that is the best idea that I could come up with also. It would certianly be to my benefit and others like me who live nowhere near Lake Martin, but, would like to visit without having to camp opr intrude on relitives.

Crappy : )

My personal favorite is the ad that Karis Park is running in Lake Magazine. It's on page 9 of the latest issue. It has pictures of kids sitting and swiiming off of a dock. Talk about false advertising.

I went to the website for Karis Park and it says to check back in August 2007 that the website is under construction. Does anyone have any pictures of the place? We were in that area Memorial Day weekend but my mom and her dh were with us and our 4 year old daughter was ready for a nap and to get off the boat. We had already been out for almost 4 hours so we didn't get to see it.

That was not a kid swiming off the dock, it was a kid hanging onto the deck off his living room!

No worries. Next time you are in Atlanta, drive up GA400. Watch for the identical track homes to your left!

Nightmare Park, I mean Karis Park, is the worst lake development I have seen in the past 35 years. I rode by in my boat last weekend and got sea sick, not from the rough water but from the sight of this development disaster. The least amount of wake from boats turns the entire cove to red muddy water. I can only imagine when there is heavy rainfall. It must be a muddy mess. If anyone out there knows the developers please inform them it will not sell.
Seawall?
Piers?
Docks?
Trees?
Landscaping?
Appealing homes?
Privacy?
Price?
Somebody did not take Development 101 or Real Estate 101.

Think how the poor homeownwers at the Harbor, The Village and Marin are going thru. Must have depreciated their home values tremendously! Does not appear there is a positive solution for that mess of an unsold, never will be sold, half constructed development. A trailer park would be more pleasing to look at!

You could call it "Nightmare Trailer Park". You could jack the homes up and put wheels underneath and it might have a better chance of selling as a trailer park but you would still have to drop the price by one million +.

If you are going to the trouble of putting wheels underneath them you might as well hook a big rig up to them and haul them off to Atlanta where they belong with similar ugly houses.

If you are going to mass produce ugly houses you need to have down and dirty ugly prices. The only thing down and dirty is the development and the lake water from the run off.
