Subject:	2001 Merc cuts out

Bought a second hand boat with a 2001 Merc 4 stroke. It startes great, but as I advance the throttle is boggs down and cuts out. If I baby it by giving it gas, backing off, and back and forth, it'll rev up and go to full throttle. I've changed the gas, fuel filter and spark plugs. I also noticed the primer bulb never gets fully hard, so I'm going to change that next. Any other ideas? Carbs? I'm just not that familiar yet with 4 strokes.

Try the redneck carb repair first.  Have one man rev the engine in neutral. When revs are high, cover a carb best you can with your hands. When the carb is covered, advance the throttle to full quickly.  The high vacuum can suck a blockage out of the main jet and any other blocked passages.
