to do their job. Had a wreck this week. We were hit by a young male, no drivers license, only an international Id, fake Insurance card. County officer turned it over to the State trooper although we were not on a state road. State trooper did not give any citation for the accident, not having a license and allowed the possible illegal alien to drive away from the accident without a drivers license or a ticket. Then proceeded to tell me that I needed to fill out the SR-13 form and if I did not, I risked loosing my license. The Public Safety form asked for the other drivers information such as name and drivers license. It could not be filled out fully. I had insurance, registration, license and was not at fault. (sitting still) He will not fill out the form, does not have a drivers license, did not have insurance, did not get a ticket and will become a "John Doe" who will have NO responsibility or accountability for his actions. He will get to continue like he has without any justification the the laws that I am required to follow. This is mad. After filing multiple complaints and contacting the INS (Ice) program, nothing was done. I also heard that this has happened to other recently. I also heard of another accident where the drivers license was expired and he was ticketed. He was a legal residence however. I would almost consider this profiling of those that can or will pay the ticket to support the department. No need in doing paperwork on someone you have no control of or even wonder WHO IS HE AND WHERE DID HE COME FROM? It will take him flying a plane into a building to get their attention it seems. Thanks for the vent. Hope someone in the State reads this and gives a D_ _ _ !

That is the new America. If you have money, job, and pay your bills on time, then be ready to be shafted. Thats the nicest word I could find. I have never seen anything like it. You are exactly correct, no money then why should they waist their time. We have good jobs and perfect credit score and we are treated like a second class citizen in order to refinance our house. But if we where behind on paying and doing bad we would get special treatment. Thanks for letting me vent. GA. Steve

Why would all the illiegals want citizenship? As it is now they are already 'super' citizens, meaning they have something better than citizenship. Us lowly citizens are required to compy with the laws and regulations, while the 'illegals' get a free ride.
Another true story:
I had a young single girl working for me. When she was 8 months pregnant she was hit from behind while sitting at a red light. The perp backed up, went around her, almost causing another accident and then proceeded to leave the scene. Two witnesses followed him and forced him to turn around. Back at the scene he was obviusly drunk, had no license, and no insurance. He walked away without the first citation. Meanwhile my employee got a ticket for no proof of insurance.
Citizenship, they don't want no stinking citizenship!! Why lower themselves down to our level?

to my office after receiving my e-mail of complaint of our system. He said "thanks for contacting me and sharing my info. He forwarded my letter to a Colonel J. christopher Murphy who is the director of the Alabama Dept of Public Safety. He gave me his number and said I could contact him if I had any questions. Well, I called. Left my name and number. No phone call has been returned. Waiting to see. I just want an answer that satisfies me. Waiting to hear from our senators as well. I guess I'm on "the watch list" now. The next time anyone is pulled over in the "take back our highway" campaigns, we should just say "All I have is an international ID" . See how you are treated. They may take you out for an ice cream and give you a stimulus check and then pat you on the back and send you on your way.

Could this possibly be that no action was taken because there were no injuries? Did he possibly think that you had already exchanged information?
I can understand why you are upset. I have noticed that in the past few years, the police are very lax in getting involved in accidents where there there are no injuries. In VA, they got to the point that they didn't even show up for accidents unless there was significant property damage or personal injury.
Do you think that this person could have had a diplomatic ID? You know if they have any sort of diplomatic connections, there is nothing that can be done because they get diplomatic courtesy. There was an uproar in DC a few years ago over a drunk Russian that hit and killed a young girl. The only thing that happened to him is that the Russian embassy moved him out of the US.

No and No. My husband and I were both hurt, but not bad enough to go to the hospital in out opinion. No- he was a 20 year old hispanic young man who lives in a mobile home park that is full of illegal aliens . The park is owned by lawyers and they seem to be protected. He ended up giving a false address, fake insurance and he had no ID other than an international ID. You MUST have a license in the state of Alabama after living here for 30 days to drive legally. That is the rules for you and I. A foreign ID is not good enough. Anyone can have an ID with their picture on it. The state Troopers office admitted that they did not follow procedure if the officer did not give him a ticket and saw him drive away from the scene. He said he would be spoken to about the matter. The first trooper said :"We don't give a ticket unless we actually see them driving without a license. " That is why I said "what part of telling me he does not have a license and then letting him drive away from the scene do you not get? "That is why the complaint was filed against the trooper. Believe me this was no diplomat. I did a follow up on verifying the address with management. You tell me if you knew that this guy was let go after committing a crime and then ended up flying a plane into a building or blowing up something at an SEC football game, would you be happy that they had him in their hands, knew he was illegal and just let him go without any consequences for his actions in hind sight. The point is that I don't care if it's one by one, I expect them to follow the same procedure they would for you or I ! Ticket, car impounded, arrested, deported. etc...etc...

Because the story as related seems so crazy. I was just exploring any possibility I could think of for the trooper to have let the guy go. That's a pretty wild situation, even for rural Alabama.
And I do have blue jeans, although Colonel Tom's is kinda far for me. My grandparents were farmers so I'm not totally unfamilar with the territory. Although I have seen things that I didn't think possible since I moved to Alabama.

It happened as I said. There are a couple of witnesses whom I know who checked on us and were lucky they were not hit as well. We gave the officer the benefit of doubt to do his job as the law would require. We raised no attitudes or concerns at the scene. After all it is his job and we expect him to do his job and do it well. Nothing less than we expect of ourselves. My husband and I did not say a word or even get mad until we got to the house and I made the call to the insurance company he listed and found out it was fraud. Then I looked over the papers by the officer and saw he listed NO DRIVERS LICENSE. NO ID. We were at the wreck for over and hour with the officers. The next morning is when I called the State Troopers office and spoke with a gentleman who told me the " we normally don't give tickets unless...." He said I would need to speak with the corporal. (Corporal Bailey) He called me back later in the day. This was after I had written my letter to the Governor, Senator, and 4 newspapers. He asked if I was making a complaint. I screamed at him. I later called back and apologized for screaming at him and knew that I should handle this the proper way. I said I am mad for what has happened, I expect some results , arrest, deportation etc.. and I expect you to cooperate with the INS (ICE) division but I apologize for screaming at you. The trooper was DT Jones out of the Birmingham Post. I called the guy Governor Riley said to call and did not receive a returned call. I plan on giving them one week to return the call. Then I will contact Governor Riley and let them know I did not receive a response. I am assuming I will not. You go for it. I plan on contacting my legislature representative as well. Just another example: The city of Hoover earlier this past year had a state employee that was arrested in a sting for selling legal drivers license to illegal aliens for a thousand dollars a pop. Those illegal aliens are then able to register to vote because they have a legal state ID. You see where I am going. We are not being protected. Our money is not being used properly and something must be done. I expect the treatment I deserve. I had a license, registration, ID, insurance. Now I have a luxury car that has been devalued because the wreck will go on the car trace, wheel axle damage, insurance premium increases, points on license etc....I feel we need all our legislatures to be aware of how we are being fleeced by the very people who's salaries we pay for. I may be barking up a tree, but I will at least have my voice heard.

FreshwaterBayGirl, I can relate! I was sitting at a traffic light in Opelika on 280 near Tiger Town when I was struck from behind. Neither my wife nor I was injured, but I knew it would cost me to repair the plastic cover on the 2006 Avalon bumper. I got out and went to the SUV that hit me. The hispanic woman could barely speak english and when I asked for her insurance, she said she had none. I then asked to see her drivers license, she had none. The police were called. The police report, wich I picked up the next morning, at the Opelika police station, Showed that she received no citations. When I questioned this at the police station, I was told that I could go before a Judge and swear out a complaint. This woman also lived in a trailer park, according to the report. I don't know if she was illegal or not, but what good are the police, if they won't even enforce the law evenly? My insurance says they will go after her. How much you wanna bet my rate goes up? I guess that's my rant!!

I understand your concern.
I was driving behind another car when a car driving towards us came into our lane. The car in front of me went off the road to avoid a collsion and had damage. I ran off the road and had no damage. As the approaching car left I went after him and brought him back to the scene.
The police came, refused to take my statement, and let the driver leave. The damaged vehicle was left on their own.
The next day I called the police captian and told him my story. He said it was a one car accident and if I thought the driver that caused the accident should have been arrested it was up to me to make a citizen's arrest.

I spoke with Lt. Winston on Wed. We talked for about 45 minutes and had a good conversation. I talked to him about State Troopers losing the respect from the citizens when we know they are only pulling over for the money and when my company trucks are pulled over, they nit pick the trucks to pieces while at the same time 4 or five trucks pass that obviously don't meet requirements and probably have drivers without licenses that most likely are illegal. I told him that they do their "take back our highways" campaigns and make lots of $ but when it came to doing the job they had failed me and the citizens of Alabama. I asked him how he would feel if the one he let get away was the one that bombed an Alabama or Auburn football game or tampered with our water supply or flew a plane into a building and he didn't do his job and follow the law evenly for all? He admitted that they had failed. He stated that because of my harsh demand for an explanation (probably my letters to the paper and the governor) had caused them to have some meetings a good discussions. He said that is is a problem that needed to be addressed by the governor. Their hands are tied. He said it is written policy that they not give a citation at the scene of an accident. When the H--- and who was the bozo that thought of this? I re-explained that this person was DRIVING without even having a license issued to him. I will now offer a trooper a "International ID" any time I am stopped in the future, just to be able to video their response. We will see what the even playing field becomes. I recommend that each of you take a moment to write your legislature representative, the governor and the senator concerning your experience and demand that there be equal justice. They are in some cases our first line of defense. They really had no excuse and knew they were in the wrong. I am still left with the increased insurance, point on the license and a devalued car. The other guy is back on the road without any punishment for breaking the law and doing property damage. UGH! It's not over until the fat lady sings and I have not sung.
