I am making some swim baits for stripers and thinking of going around 8 inches. You think that's about right or bigger?

I have caught stipers on swim baits from 4.5 - 6" in length. It isn't the length as much as the proper depth.

I agree with Jim. In the last few years smaller swim baits have outperfomed the larger ones. Sassy Shad or a knock off brand seem to work pretty well. I haven't needed to resupply recently, but Action brand baits in Birmingham had a good selection. And depth is critical! That bait needs to be within about 5' of the stripes nose and never below. Good luck.

That sounds good. Thanks. Hopefully I can make 1 that gets their attention.

So, size doesn't matter. How are you suggesting to get to the right depth and 5' from their nose? Downrigger?

If your going to troll for stripes, you are going to have a tough go of it without a high quality graph and downriggers.

Downriggers are the best, easiest but the most costly option. Next would be use a 4 oz trolling sinker and a 6 ft flouracarbon leader. The only works if you passed high school trig and can figure angles and length of the line triangle. Next would be lead core line, (I have no knowledge of how to use it) but a lot of striper guides on Lake Lanier use this technique. As mountain man says, need good electronics and something like a navaonics chip for depts ore you will constantly be in jepordy. Hope this helps.

I've always had the best luck on some version of white or gray shad color. I usually buy pearl.
