After several tries I finally caught some Crappie. I went out night fishing for Crappie by a dock light and caught about a dozen. The fish were holding deep at about 12-20 feet (water depth was 20-30 feet). I used live minnows. One of my neighbors has two of those green monster fishing lights (www.thegreenmonsterfishinglight.com). They attract tons off fish. I think my hook size is too small. I was using a size 4 and they were swallowing the entire hook. The ones that were too small I had to throw back with the hook still in or I would have killed them removing it. I think I need to go to a size 2. Any advice on hook size?

What area were you fishing in? I live in the Dead Timbers area and have 2 on my boat house and 1 off my floating dock. I mainly have them for the view, but a lot of my neighbors and others have been racking up the crappie and 2-3lb bass. I also have 10 xmas trees and a feeder on the side of the boat house. Good to hear you got some.....

I was fishing in Sandy Creek near the Smith Mountain fire tower in Smith Mountain Estates. I am not familiar with the Dead Timbers area. What part of the lake is that on. I was fishing in a pontoon on Fri, Sat and Sun night. You should fish for those crappie. They are the best eating freshwater fish. (Striped Bass a close second) Way better than bass or catfish. Sounds like I need to try and hit your place.

Dead Timbers is on the other side of CR 34 from Sandly Creek. A long way by water. If you know where Chuck's is, it is directly across from it (crossing over Blue Creek). Close to Stillwaters also.

Come and try them. I may this weekend.....

How long have you had the lights? Any problems? I am thinking about getting one.

The only problem you will have with the lights is other people fishing them.

Yeah that's true. I didn't fish by my neighbors light because they were out there fishing on the dock. I didn't want to be rude and pull up and start fishing. It is public water though. If you put these lights in you have to accept the fact that people will fish by them.

I have had them since Feb. I enjoy people fishing them and talking BS with them. Does not bother me at all. The lake is for everyone to enjoy.
