Bass fishing has picked up.I used rapalas mostley rainbow colored . Found bass on drop offs and around submerged tress. Also caught a couple on a white bleeding spinner bait. I have never fished for crappie in this lake. Can anyone give me any pointers? Can you troll for them with jigs?

Thanks ,
Ryan

Ryan:

I caught about 15 crappie last week. My only success has been around submerged trees using live minnows. The trick is find a submerged tree that has crappie around it. Cover and habitat for crappie is sparse on Smith Lake. Many people sink trees in the lake and only they know where to find them.

I also caught a 2 lb bass on plastic worm and my first two catfish this season last week. I plan to try again this week.

Now is the time to take a dozen minnows and various colors of jigs and start at the
end of thoes same trees you are catching bass at and fish thoes minnows and jigs all the way up to the bank.
