I just read some disturbing information about Israel defense.  As we know, Israel requires all men to train in reserve military and can be called up until they are 40.  The really stupid thing is the gubment makes it almost impossible to own a gun thru its licensing requirements.  Is that not as stupid as it gets....  Yo Hamas neighbors are armed to the teeth, and your reserve military is not allowed to own guns at home.....that's why Hamas knew they could kill and capture all they wanted to.  I really can't believe Israel is that stupid.....GEEZ, BAD AS USA dimokraps!

The perfect example of a free country is Switzerland.  All serve in reserve and are issued weapons that they keep at home!!  They've never been conquered!!

Just a minor note -both men and women are required to serve, although women generally serve in administrative positions.  I was suprised to learn that their laws prohibit people from having guns - but I suspect after this, that may change.  But it should be noted that it is a small country and generally speaking, the IDF is usually close by.  I think they were confident that that the fences would hold them back - there are concrete walls beneath the ground under the fences.  But it appears that they never thought they would have the audacity to cut through the fence.

Have to admit this one took me by surprise.  I had understood, incorrectly it seems, that Israelis that served in the military hold onto their service weapon.  The kibbutz's that were armed or had armed guards repelled the attackers.  The ones that did not were slaughtered.  A stark reminder why we have a 2nd amendment.  If Hamas shows up at my house they are going to be in for a fight.

I am right there with you MM.  I thought it was all citizens also and assumed they kept their weapon.  I saw a story once that incuded pics of Isreali women in public with automatic seapons slung across their back.  The story said they had to carry it with them at all times unless they had an approved safe to store it in.  I understand the farms that had weapons kept them in an amory.  Did you read about the 25yo woman who led her whole community to defeat the terrorist.  They killed about 2 dozen and she was credited with several kills herself.  Young Mom of two stepped up.

I just saw Fox News has picked up on the difficulty of Israelies to buy firearms to protect themselves.  Only 165K residents own guns out of over 7 million residents.  Permission to buy takes weeks of interviews, training, background checks, etc...  I guess the USA dimokraps trained the Israel dimokraps on how to ruin their protection....
