I think I may have posted this information last year but here it is again

I have Direct TV at my house in Birmingham.  That being said, I discovered when asking them for a quote on my lake house service that they will provide an additional receiver at my lake house for only $6.00 month.  I receive the same channel line up as in Brimingham and they installed a dish and all hardware for free at the lake.  My understanding is that this feature is availible regardless of your home location and sure beats the cr*p out of paying Charter 50-75.00 per month.

Heck it might even be worth it to change your home carrier.

I'll be interested for you to let me know how it goes. Customer Service rep told me the same thing over the phone when we bought our lake home a few years ago. When installer showed up, he said he'd have to close out our primary home account. The solution was to have two accounts at full price. I hope it works out better for you.

What if you get the receiver and installed it your self? Pretty easy to do no one would know where that 2nd receiver was. Sorta like the people who have them in their motor homes.

I'll take the 5th on that if cross examined. However, that MAY have been a good solution for us.

Its not a matter of going to do it.  I have been doing it for a year.  Again I pay $6.00/month period.  No closing of my account in Birmingham no separate account.  I get exactly the same service at the lake taht I receive at home.

Call me if you have questions 205-492-6412.

With using the Hotspots, would that not get pretty costly streaming TV from AT&T. I have uverse at home in Birmingham and stream TV in other rooms of the house on their internet which is unlimited, but my Verizon account is billed on GB used and anything over the plan can get costly. Maybe you know a way to get around this, if you do please feel me in.

We dont use the hot spot for streaming the tv signal.  It comes in via the sat feed.  We only use the hot spot for email and web searches.  If you don't want to do this use your phone for this function.

That is a very good deal. I would switch to Direct from Dish for that deal. We are paying @ $90 a month in Bham and the same at the lake every month. I will definitely pursue.

Hope there is not some "Hook" in the deal requiring UVerse service in Bham to get the $6 deal at the lake???

I'm not on Lake Martin, but I have DISH at home and on the houseboat. When I signed up I added another receiver and took it to the boat. I purchased a dish off a local sales network and installed it myself. The company that installed at the house made a $100 service call and rewired the cabeling and set up the receiver. Like Longhorn, I am paying for only an additional receiver, not the complete service. They also will treat the additional receiver as being installed in an RV if you need service. They really don't care where teh receiver resides, just that they get paid for it.

If you are paying for channels in Birmingham (Cable or DirectTV) you can install a Slingbox there and watch any of those channels anywhere you have internet access (including the lake) for free.  I pay comlink for basic internet service at the lake and watch all the channels from Birmingham on my iPhone, iPad, or big screen TV in Hi-Def.

I need internet access for work anyway and the rest of the family uses it for social media but don't pay a dime for TV channels.  It all streams from Birmingham with no problems...  Last Saturday I watched the Masters on my iPad while working outside on my dock and on Sunday the big screen inside.  For the TV, I have AppleTV which you stream to from your iPhone or iPad using AirPlay.  With AppleTV you can stream Netflix etc too.  AppleTV is about $70 nowadays.

SlingBox is $114 and the iPhone/iPad app is $15 - no monthly fees or anything.  I've been running it about a year now and for sports and local news (from Birmingham) on the weekends, can't beat it!

Direct also come with direct anywhere. With it you can watch any of your home programing on phone, iPad, laptop, etc. as long as you have internet service. With some devices you can hook through a smart tv.

My lake service over Dish is a little different from that in Bham. Bham uses 2 satellites and the same service at the lake uses 3 and is served by different local channels for tornado coverage ( cannot hear any sirens). Outside sat dish is larger also, as well as receiver.

We do not have internet access other than via cellular network,, and for us, that is more than adequate. Considering what we pay each month to watch TV, read e-mail, talk on a phone, and ignore TeleMarketers,,, it is getting very expensive to stay in touch??

I also have Direct TV at my home in Auburn. I also was offered the same deal last year and took advantage. When the installer arrived at the lake, he was under the impression we were moving our current 8 boxes plus adding 4 like we had moved to a new residence. I explained the situation to the contract installer and he said " awesome, you just made my job allot eaiser". He installed the complete system with the four extra boxes at the lake. We now have our complete Direct TV package at the lake for $24/month. As far as internet, we added Charter cable internet only for $39.99/month and it is excellent service.

If you own a lake home as a second house, Direct TV is the only way to go.
