I have been coming up to Beautiful Smith lake for about my 6th year now, and this will be my second year to own a boat and property on the Jasper side of this lake. Will the water really stay as high as long as they say? I truly don't know the method they use to control the depth of the water. I just know that a level of 505, like it currently was yesterday, is sufficient for my family and I to have a great summer.

I type all of this to ask again, will the water level stay high all of the boating summer months or is that set level just for looks?

Click on the words "Water Level" below the words "Favorite Links" (top right side of home page). Here you can view year round measured water levels for the past several years. This should give you a good idea historically of where water levels might be at any given time of the year. After reviewing the charts you will agree that water levels the past few weeks have risen way above normal. Enjoy it while you can because once the rain stops, and the rivers and creeks down stream return to normal levels for this time of year, APCO will pull water at accelerated rates from Smith Lake.

ok thank you.

But if the rain does not stop and keeps at a steady pace, APCO will not have to full the water as hard correct?

Normally we're above 500 by now. We're really not all that far off from 'normal'. By March we should be at or close to full pool. When the rain stops we should be at full pool just as we have been for years.

The excessive rain has raised the level higher and they are releasing the water to keep the level closer to where it should be this time of year.

Oh yeah... left this out. The rain won't keep up like this for much longer. Now is really the rainy part of the year. Barring any drought issues I'd imagine the water should remain at or above 505 until the end of summer. Enjoy your property!
