I can tell you who not to use and that is Rice Boat docks. We were given an invoice of everything that we were supposed to get when we decided to go with them a year and a half ago. He got us our boat dock with lift installed but failed to get us the concrete work and wheeled ramp to be able to chase the water. At the time the water came up because he was behind on getting our dock when we should have and told us that he would come back in the fall and do the concrete work for us to be able to chase the water as originally invoiced. Due to the fact that the boat dock was financed into the construction loan for the house we had to pay him, even though it was not finished. He told us to keep out $1000.00 and he would come back in the fall and finish. He never came back to do the concrete work and lied to our face several times that he would be there and still never showed. I d0 not have anything good to say about Rice Boat Docks and do not want to see anyone else get treated like us.

Winston Steel in the Arley area treated us very well. Delivered on all promises at a fair price. One Lesson learned for next time: I would highly recommend paying extra for the composite board in place of pressure treated, I have dug out way too many splinters. The last one was taken out of our energetic 18 month old baby girl, was not a pleasant experience for anyone involved.

Winston Steel did me an outstanding job on my boat dock. They were very helpful in some followup items and offered suggestions for correcting these problem. I would not hesitate to go back to them for any future work.

I don't think you can go wrong with either Winston Steel or Jim King. I went with Jim King for the galvanized steel.

I now see why messages are getting posted repeatedly. I go an error message that said something like "one email recipient is required." So, I retried it several times before noticing that everything is getting posted. Sorrry for the duplication.

If you can't find what/who you want to build your dock give me a call. I'm booked for a month or so but have the ability to build several different styles/methods. If you're in a hurry you may be better with a larger business. I take on an occassional job like that to keep me busy between my occassional small service calls.

Another company to steer clear of is Free State Boat Docks. If these guys approach you , run, really fast. We payed for a USED boat dock in Feb 07 and were told that we would have it installed within 2 weeks. After 3 weeks, no boat dock. Not one time were we called, every phone call was initiated by myself. After numerous excuses, and being told it would just be a couple of weeks ( we actually started keeping up with the number of times we were told this: 13) we NEARLY got our dock installed. I say nearly, because after telling Free State numerous times that the water was dropping rapidly because of the drought and APCO and that the water would be too low,,,,,,they got within 20 ft of my walkway and the dock ran aground. So there it sits, 20 feet away. On top of all this, the only reason we knew that it had ARRIVED was because we happen to be at our lot a few days after they brought it. Not one person has called to even let us know that it is there or to give any explanation. I am hoping that in the spring when the water comes back up they will finish the job, but after my experience I wouldnt bet on it!

I think that you purchased my old dock. I know I had to wait six months to get my dock from Free State, but I was very pleased with the dock and it's construction. I was told it would be 6-8 weeks for it to be delivered which I thought would be a fast turn around time. I was not suprised that it took six months. Everytime I called to check on it I was given an honest answer to what part of the construction phase the dock was in and what was slowing down the process.

I think that your problem was that they had a young salesman that was wanting to make the sale. He did ask if he could go ahead and take the dock, but I told him that I did not want to be without a dock at any time. That is probably where the hold up came on you getting the dock. Anyway, it is a good dock. We enjoyed it very much. I hope you do too.

Free State's Dock is the same construction that Jim King uses. The only difference is that King's are welded togther on the water and Free State uses bolts like most dock manufacture's use. The reason I did not go with King is beause he couldn't do a trade-in and my dock was in really good shape; I just needed a double slip instead of a single. I think either one would be a good manufacture. Of course if you have money to blow, go with Flotation Systems Aluminum docks. They look great, but a very expensive!
