It's interesting to hear comments about the intent of SLISA from those who obviously did not attend the meeting and are lacking in facts. I would encourage those who did not attend to talk to property owners who have been involved with SLISA and are knowledgeable of what the true charter of SLISA is. The majority of the attendees who are purely intested in a better climate for water level control and improved conditions for Smith Lake are not involved in any commercial development activities (99%, based on meeting attendance estimate). If everone wants to know what's going on between AlPCo and SLISA, attend the meeting, talk to a SLISA member, or a SLISA officer or board member.

The web site for SLISA is also accessible for everyone who would like to know the officers of SLISA and board members.

Yeah, just went to the SLISA site, the last post was Feb 16!!!!!! A letter from AP "slamming" SLISA.
Sounds like they are jolly on the ball doesn't it?? So, tell me, where is all the "good news" posted anyway? Sounds like SLISA is fighting a losing battle to me. If there is ANY progress being made, where is it posted at??
Considering they just had their "big meeting" with AP, why is there NOTHING posted about it? I just don't see it.............

BECAUSE THERE ISN'T ANY GOOD NEWS TO REPORT...... IT'S TOO BAD THAT THERE ARE SO MANY SUCKERS THAT HAVE SENT IN THEIR $25.00 MEMBERSHIO DUES, JUST SO THAT THE OFFICERS, WHICH JUST ALL HAPPEN TO BE EITHER DEVELOPERS, HUGE LAND OWNERS, BUSINESS OWNERS AND REAL ESTATE AGENTS, CAN USE THOSE FUNDS TO FURTHER THEIR WEALTH. SEEMS LIKE I SEEN ONE OF THOSE SIGNS THAT RUSTY PURCHASED TO ADVERTISE SLISA MEETINS, BEING USED TO ADVERTISE LUNCH AT HIS RESTAURANT OVER AT LAKE SHORE INN....... YEAH RIGHT, THIS SLISA ORGANIZATION REALLY CARES ABOUT THE STAKEHOLDERS!

The Web Site is not maintained.
SLISA was too late getting put together for the relicensing by APCO by FERC to make a meaningful difference.
The lake level is not just about Smith Lake but all water downstream. It'd be nice, but given the theories and conspiracies these guys come up while reading their web page...they don't sound like a rational group. Nor do I think that thowing lawyers at APCO is going to help anything. My guess is that the developers will po APCO and get stricter rules put on them....which would be nice.
Isn't the Landfill Hyche owns the one with problems? (leakage?) Please correct me if I'm wrong. They need to put there energy in running a proper landfill if this is the case. They were denied there request to increase the intake of waste (thank goodness). My understanding is that they need to get an engineer that knows what they are doing in design and building the waste cells. ADEM should be ashamed of their lack of oversite. This landfill DIRECTLY effects the lake. Any group that has ties with this landfill owner/operator ought to be questioned. WAKE UP PEOPLE!

Let me correct something. Tarrie Hyche owns the landfill Terrie Hyche is on SLISA's board. These are clearly not the same people...not even the same gender...

You are correct treeluvr, this is the same Hyche that owns a landfill very close to one of the lake's feeder streams and, by the way, he has sought to expand that operation in the name of increased profits. Leakage of pollutants from Hyche's landfill have been detected by third parties on more than one occasion and I don't believe a systemic correction to the problem has been implemented. Is this listed as one of SLISA's priorities - a correction to this REAL problem?? I doubt it since it might impact Mr Hyche's profit margin. Additionally, this is the same Hyche involved with some major condo developments on the lake. So this fellow has been quite crafty, he makes money polluting the lake from two avenues and now he has assisted in the formation of an organization that waters-down/dilutes REAL ISSUES (water quality decline, over-development) with an issue, that in my mind, is more related to the weather and the needs of power generation. And, this is a big "and", SLISA has the nerve to charge admission to this show. Your right again treelvr about the need for lake waterfront owners To Wake Up. The real major problems confronting the future of this lake IS: WATER QUALITY DECLINE AND OVER-DEVELOPMENT. SLISA, put that at the top of your list of priorities and work on a good faith basis toward implementing long-term improvement strategies and I'll join gladly. I don't see that happening, though, because the developers in your group will see that as a threat to their current and future plans to further exploit the lake.

Guess, I'll have to stand corrected also. I thought there was an unintended misspelling of the name. I stand by everything else in my prior post, though.
