Matters not to me, as I am an eggHead, but I was in the Sylacauga home depot last evening and they had half or better pallet of Traeger Hickory BBQ pellets marked down to $3 something a bag from $12 something a bag. Forget the weight of the bag but appeared to be about 20# or so.
Call them to see if they are still there.

I too am not a pellett cooker. But, I have just started to experiment using hardwood pellets in my electric smoker and my Weber Kettle.
I ordered a 20# bag from Amazon (not Traeger brand) for a very reasonable price. I plan to use it in the wood shute on the smoker and make a foil packet for the fire on the kettle.
As a comparison to wood chips..

I have tried pellets in my MES smoker. I have an Amazin Tube at the lake and have used them in my cold smoker attachment at home. So far I am not impressed. It is very difficult to keep them burning in the Amazin tube and the cold smoker didn't feed them well at all. I tried microwaving them to remove any moisture, but they still just didn't peform like chips. I am also skeptical of pellets that are not 100% of the wood I want. I have always used chips and oak is not one of them, yet most pellets are "flavored" and contain oak filler. It concerns me that the bitter taste of the oak will come through. You can find pellets made of 100% cherry, or mesquite or hickory, but they are pricy. Until I either get more comfortable with pellets, or until something new comes out, I'm sticking with chips.
