I am in need of a new battery this year for the pontoon boat. Not sure whether to invest $100+, or by a Stowaway battery from Academy. Does anyone have any opinions on what has worked well, or an opinion on the cheaper batteries.

Just buy the Walmart brand. Those batteries are manufactured by the same company that makes the Die-Hard batteries.

I was thinking of getting a dual purpose, instead of just a starting battery. Thought it would be better if we were just floating and listening to the radio. Any experience with the dual purpose?

dual purpose is another word for listening to the radio and not cranking. You never know when the battery will get old and drain in an hour.
