First thing is throw out all your knowledge about saltwater stripes. Freshwater stripers are pretty much a whole different species. Live bait is king. Dead or cut bait will not work. Gizzard shad work the best but noboby sells live shad on Lake Martin. Some bait shops will sell black salties. Bream will also work. Suckers or large shiners will work too. The best artificials are bucktails and large Redfins for topwater.

I'm sorry but I have to disagree with the dead and cut bait. Shad guts have been some of the best from the bank bait I hhave ever used for stripers. I have also cought them on cut bream and even cut minnows. These fish actually do scavange and will pick up fresh dead and cut bait.
