There are some lingering questions out there about the sports season that need an answer:
1. BigFoot, now that the Webmaster has a faster IP service will we get quicker updates on the football poolaza? 2. Will you have to type faster to keep up with the new speed? 3. Can Cam play basketball? baseball? 4. Will there be any time for instant reply in the Auburn-Oregon game?

Answers:
1. Sadly, no.
2. Sadly, yes.
3. Sadly, no....but he does have a younger brother!
4. ABSOLUTELY NOT! In fact, I highly recommend a bed pan or chamber pot as
a required accessory for this game unless halftime can bail you out!
|
Absolutely. At least for those with a DVR. I love the pause and replay function. Plenty of time to get a beer, hit the head, and grab some finger food if done correctly and never miss a thing.....then it's easy to catch up during the numerous TV timeouts! I just hope I don't have to work that night.

Auburn defense better be in top shape to handle the quick offense of the Ducks. I watched a series of plays where they run a crossing pattern where the WR on the left crosses to the right. After the play, the WR lines up on the right so they can run a new play quick without the WR having to line up over on the left and waste time. The Auburn run game needs to control the game so the defense can rest. Just some thoughts.

Good thoughts, GF...hope TR is onto that one....

I couldn't understand the fuss till I got one, and now I would have a hard time watching sports without it...it's kinda like the feeling I had in the late 60's after we got a color TV; the DVR is my favorite entertainment invention of the decade.

with all of the distractions we have had lately, I am only up to halftime of the Bama game. Please don't let me know what happens. DVR is the only way to go.

Ok, yall will have enlighten ol' country boy who is technically challenged (oh no, wait, I work in IT). Does the DVR have to come from the cable provider? Or can it just be purchased at Best Buy, or internet? I am assuming cable runs to it and then to TV, and it is sorta a buffer zone that maintains x amount of TV time. Does it maintain all channels, or just the one you are watching?
Can it be set to record? I am sure there are other questions I should be asking.

I have it for a year but am embarrassed to say I have never used it. However, we have a HD tv and a box from the cable company to watch the HD channels. The recorder feature is an option available with the box. They gave it to me free for 24 months. I never questioned why it was free but assume it was due to my having voted for Obama.

Like you, I am up to the point where the Tide band is coming on to the field at half time. Looks like all Tide and goodbye to BCS for Auburn. How many points will you give me if I take the Tigers?

You of all people were the last I thought would not already be using one. Ours is through Dish network. We actually have two receivers and record 4 shows at a time. We record movies, sporting events and network shows and watch when we want too, like when it is raining. You can set it up to record a particular show and with the Dish DVR you can tell it to record new episodes in the future and just forget about remembering to set it. If you would like to know more then it must be time to have supper at John's again.
|
Now that's funny....the heavy equipment operator and postman teaching the IT guy how to use a DVR.
It's very easy, ML. Much easier than the old VCR's. Like Larry said, you can set it up to record anything. You can use replay as you watch TV. You can skip advertisements while watching shows. A must have. I remember discussing your satelite problem with trees, but I bet there is a way to work it out. Dish will give you everything necessary at no cost with contract. You can buy DVR's seperately but they aren't cheap and you then need to get them integrated into your cable system.....since ur an IT guy, no problem...right?.....uhhhh, my thoughts?... a chain saw and tractor would be the proper solution; that or see if your current provider will let you have one. Things change too quick and I think owning the equipment is a waste of money. Something bigger and better comes out almost every year.

I'm sorry, your message must have been encrypted, as I could not read it. I think Lil Talisi had the best idea. I'm "all in" (where have I heard that). I'll provide the steaks if you'll cook them.

okay, this was a funny thread! i liked the word TIVO better back in the day, but holy cow ...who can live without a DVR? .... a 30 min show becomes 17 ...an hour show becomes like 42~~~ .... like McGill said, the bathroom, snack, top your drink off during a ballgame is SWEET!
hop on the bus Gus ...don't need to discuss much...just drop off the keys .....hate to see him go, and for 15 million over 5 years ...go gettem ....
