Once bought some steaks at WalMart. Never again, ever.
I assumed that Sam's meats were similar, but, I hear that is not true. And that their beef/pork/chicken/fish, even though in larger packages, is very good grade, not from the same source as WalMart.
Anybody, not biased by specialty butcher shop cuts, have anything to share?? Cruising down their meat counter looking, many of their prices are lower than, say Publix/WinnDixie. Quality is the question. Any comments??

Sams is the only place to buy your Baby Back Ribs. Top quality.

We get several meat items at Sam's....boston butts have turned out very good, my wife does a crock pot all day roast with their chuck roast, ground chuck is good.

Yesterday got the two pack Tyson chicken, boiled them good and tonight put chicken and broth in BIG pot of vegetable soup. And you should definitely try one of their $4.95 rotisire (msp) chickens. We like them very much, and you cannot buy one and cook it for that.

We only have a Kroger and Food Lion here. There is one small locally owned market with a great meat counter. I buy butts there in the twin pack before they trim the pork steaks off. Other than that I buy everything else at Sam's. I have bought butts there and they were equal to the local market. The briskets and chicken are very good. I've had great luck with ribeyes, chuck roasts, pork chops and boneless loins. Pricing is better than the two chains and when the butts are on sale at both places they are $.89. Sam's is not the same as Wal-Mart when ot comes to fresh meat.

Sams yes-OK WalMart never. The last whole ribeye I got at Winn-Dixie was shoe leather and it's Ok if its braised. Their produce is poor and prices are high. I don't know how they survive. Foodland is much better for produce and not bad for meat although steaks must be US Good not choice. Most of my meats are bought at Kroger. I'm still longing for Publix.

if Costco ever opens in Auburn Sams will have to close. Their meats are the best-not to mention their personnel.

Thanks for the advice. I just wish there was a Sam's or Costco closer to my home (about 10 miles). Thanks again.

There is a Publix going up in Auburn out by Moore's Mill. Looks close to completion.

Trader Joes would be nice too :-) but I digress...Hotlanta had too many problems... Trade-off is worth it.

Would be fantastic!!!
I wish a Publix would open somewhere closer than Auburn and Montgomery. The Winn Dixie in Alex City is so bad, I don't know how it stays open. And I've never seen a store with such a poor produce department.

I shop Costco in Montgomery. Their meat is very good, and they have a good selection. Their rotisserie chickens are great - and only $4.99.

Winn Dixie in Alex City is far superior to one in Tallassee. The one thing I have missed after moving from a big city to the lake is a really good grocery store. Put me in a Kroger/Publix in Atlanta and I will spend more money than I would at Macy's. I get so excited.
