I called the Marine Police. The recording said to call the Sheriff. The Sheriff said to call the State Troopers. The State Troopers said they would call a marine officer. I got a call back regarding the lost boat. The Marine Police supposedly identified the person but did not or could not contact him. The boat has been aground for over two weeks.
Everyone should feel safe because I will never again make the mistake of starting and idling 10 yards without my kill switch attached. Could've fallen out. Mayhem. Locusts. Obama. That ticket was expensive.
And the only time in the last 20 years I've had to drop my throttle to avoid hitting a boat that did a 180 in front of me was when it had blue lights on it.
And what about the rumor about a blue light boat hitting another boat and sending a six year old to the hospital? Supposedly when a bad storm came up and everyone took off?
A few years back my wife and I lassoed an errant pontoon boat, called the MP and got a recording too. We pulled it back to the pier and tied it up. The next weekend the ropes were in a bag at our door with a note from the owner, he stopped by later with beer and dog food - how is that for being appreciative... He said that his dock lines appeared to have been cut, so went to the Tallapoosa County SO, and before he left said "so if my boat floats up to the courthouse you will give me a call"... I have to wonder what the main driver is as far as enforcement is concerned - safety or revenue.
I had a PWC float up a few years ago. I got the Marine Police on the phone and gave them the numbers. They gave me the name and address associated with it. With that I got a phone number via the internet and the gentleman I talked to swore he hadn't owned a boat in years and never owned a PWC. I called the MP's back with that info and they double checked and got the same info. They told me they would look into it, and the supposed owner said he would contact them also. I left it at that. A few days later I came if from work and it was gone. Never heard another word.
Two or three weeks go by. We hear nothing. Then I post on this forum. Coincidence or not, we were contacted by TCSO for a debriefing this upcoming Friday. Boat was stolen. Has been moved. Owner in Jackson's Gap.
Maybe you have been selected to receive a free pair of Justin Bieber concert tickets and a compilation of his greatest hits - be sure to take a 360 K floppy (diskette that is) so you can get a copy.
