I didn't know this.  I remember he famously relieved McCrystal for speaking out against the Administration.  I remember they had another Reduction in Force in the middle officier ranks and talk about that by doing so, a "generation" of officers would not be there to rise to the G.O. ranks when the time came.  Democrats historically don't like the military, because in my opinion, they have always vaguely feared them.
