The absolute sense of right and wrong doesn't have to be Bible based. The Founding Fathers envisioned a country with a separation of church and state. I'm not sure that they had a strong "religious" sense of right and wrong either -- you recall that many of them were adulterers. The fact is that Thomas Jefferson was re-writing the Bible, leaving out the things that he didn't agree with.
Did you know that up until I was in the 2nd grade, we had a Bible reading every morning, right before we said the Pledge of Allegiance and sang "God Bless America"? Yet, we had Jewish kids in our class and there were probably kids in the class whose parents were atheists. I prefer to leave the church out of our state, and let people worship outside of government as they see fit. Because I'm sure there is some group out there that would just love to see a "national" Christian based religion implemented and made mandatory. And as an aside, from a lapsed Catholic, it is my personal opinion that the Catholic church will do anything it can to keep the issue of anti-contraception under discussion. It's a sore point with them, always has been, always will be.
Enough social engineering. The politicians need to return to the secular issues confronting our country, and leave religion and social issues alone. And
