A woman friend of mine tells this as a true story (I have my doubts).  Many years ago she and her sister were driving too fast through Indiana.  The state policeman pulled her over and walked to the driver side window.  She rolled down the window and put on her best southern drawl "Why good aftanoon offisuh,  I'll jest bet you stopped us to sell us some tickets to the policeman's ball didn't ya?"  The trooper indignantly replied "Miss, the Indiana State Police don't have balls."  His frown slowly changed to a sheepish grin as his face turned red.  "Tell ya what ladies...just please slow it down a bit." He then folded his citation book and walked back to his car shaking his head.

About 10:00 PM a few years ago I was pulled over in Liberty County, FL by a sherrif's deputy.  He asked me to come back and join him in the front seat of his patrol car.  He got on his computer and informed me that the fine for my excessive speed was going to be $110 and asked how did I feel about that.  I indicated I understood but was, of course, not happy.  He then asked "Buddy, do you want me to cut you some slack"?  I was at a loss of how to answer wondering if he was suggesting a bribe.  I simple said " Well any consideration would be appreciated."  He then told me to turn my head to face him.  He turned on the dome light and a flashlight which he shown directly in my face and said "OK Buddy, I'm goin to give you a warning ticket but I want to get to know your face real well...cause if I ever see it speeding in Liberty County again yo azz is gona be under the Blountstown Courthouse jail!"  He then escorted me back to my car and followed me at exactly 55 mph to the Franklin County line.
