"As far as this new legislation (that is a crock), here is a reality check for you: It is not the size or the speed of the boat that matters; what matters is the person who is behind the wheel! I mean come on people, are you telling me that you would start a legislation to ban 18 wheelers from our roadways because they drive too fast and have accidents? I think NOT!"
18-wheelers are already banned from some roadways. And, on some roads where they are not banned, they are restricted as to which lanes they may occupy. Which is the essence of this legislation: removing boats of a certain size from bodies of water where their use is not appropriate. Notice that it's not a bill to ban the boats; it's to ban them from some bodies of water. Not ALL, but SOME. One of them just happens to be this one.
As far as the "it's not the size of the boat, it's the driver" arguement... that's not completely without merit. On the other hand, which is likely to cause more damage in a collision-- an inflatable rowbaot, or a cabin cruiser weighing thousands of pounds? Even if the rowboat is piloted by a drunk six-year old, and the cruiser is piloted by a sober, capable and experienced captain, physics-- mass, energy, force, and so on-- decrees that the larger boat will cause more damage in an accident. And accidents happen, and someitimes it doesn't matter who is at the wheel, because you can't control the other guy.
