Welcome to Lake Martin and the Forum. You will find the lake to be a great place for you and the family. As to boating rules, our resident expert has posted some rules in the past and I have copied them below. I am sure CAT BOAT will help to explain the various rules that he and his loud mouth opps I meant loud boat crowd have promulgated. The Power Boat Association is mostly beer guzzling happy go lucky people with no real purpose other than to have fun and annoy all of the more family oriented individuals who frequent the lake. I think CAT BOAT maybe their Honorary President for Life. So as the CAT BOAT man says "Bling It On"

Lake Martin is navigable on some days, but not all. On weekdays, other than holidays that fall during the week, Lake Martin is very navigable. There is not much boating traffic during those times, and the lake can be navigated at excessive high speeds effectively. However, during weekend daylight hours during the summer, Lake Martin is unnavigable . Most boats wonder around aimlessly going in every direction possible and as slow as possible (thats why the federal government deams Lake Martin not navigable). This situation lends itself to the operation of pontoon boats only. Guidelines suggest the operation of Personal Water Craft on Lake Martin be done at nighttime between the hours of 10:00pm and 3:00am. But, effective May 31st, 2006, the new Federal Guidelines suggest that during daylight hours in the summer months, Lake Martin will be navigable, thanks to a resolution signed by the LMPBA (lake martin power boat association) that limits boat traffic to unmuffled powerboats during those times and no speedlimit has been set forth at this time. I am sure you all will agree with these new rules, and i hope yall enjoy them as I will.

There are some rules that MUST be followed on the lake. Pontoon boats and bass boats can only be operated during daylight hours Monday Thru noon on Fridays, and any weekday monday thru sunday 12mid, until 8am. ALL other dayparts are reseverved for powerboats. These rules are enforced and all will be prosicuted to the max. If you break these rules, you will be imprisoned for a long long time. For a small fee, you might want to join the LMPBA. (Lake Martin Powerboat Assoc.). We will keep you in compliance with the lake rules and regs. If you don't own a powerboat, it is best that you stay close to shore, and out of the main channel of the lake. You can find these laws recorded in sec.8, paragraph6 on page 9 of the LMPBA dialogs.
