Well, I called Critter Control this morning and was told that for $275 + $135 per catch they would set traps for our resident bobcat. However, they have less than a stellar record of captures... these little guys are really wiley. So I declined and went to the basement to begin my chores for the day, having let the dogs out a few hours earlier. And there was Bob, making himself at home on the top shelf where Thumper sleeps. And the cat food was noticeably depleted.

Since he was trying to hide, I had time to get a gun and dispatch him... but he escaped after being severely wounded. Tried following the blood trail, but the rain is coming down and washed it away quickly. Bummer, I had hoped not to let him suffer.

However, I expect he won't return now. Wow. He either came thru the kitty door between 7am and 9am this morning.... or was indoors with both my dogs & Thumper all night! Surely the dogs would have spotted him during the night.... on the other hand, invading the house during daylight hours would be pretty darn unusual, too.

Really weird.
