After all the positive things that have been said on the forum, I told my wife that we really needed to give CATHOUSE a try. So, last Friday night, we drive all the way from the North end of the lake to Prattville, hoping for an enjoyable evening.
First, we could barely find the place, then as we drive up, it looks like some kind of boaters bar. We decided to give it a try anyway, so go to the door and the place is locked! Couldn’t believe it – so I banged on the door and some guy named Steve finally opens the place up. Now this is prime time Friday night and the place is dead!!?? So, we walk in, and there are no tables! Now we are really starting to wonder about this place. Steve clears off a desk and pulls up a couple of chairs for us, so we decide to order cocktails and an appetizer. Decide to try the raw oysters along with a beer for me and wine for my wife. He looks at us a little funny, but heads to the back. After an eternity, he shows back up with a cold PBR, a glass of something (MD 20-20 I think) and the “oysters”. Not to say, but these things were about the size of a dime and tasted like something dredged up from a pond out back.
The wife wants to leave at this point, but I remind her that the place gets rave reviews, so maybe we should try the entrees. I order the catfish and she orders a burger. Again, we get this strange look, but away he goes to the back. I think he’s gone for good this time, then the food finally arrives. The burger was ok, but the catfish tasted more like carp dredged up from a pond out back.
Now I’m not the type to complain, but this wasn’t what we expected. Told Steve I would like to have a word with him, so he suggests that we step out back by the Ho’s hangout. Well, that tears if for the wife – lousy food then Ho’s hanging around! She stormed out to the car and I wasn’t far behind.
I will say the place had a cool lake motif, service was ok but don’t go there expecting a gourmet meal.
