Not a huge surprise to me. My wife and I play the course whenever we can but we don't live in Sillwaters. We did get an RTJ card last year and that makes Grand National cheaper than Stillwaters and in my opinion, it is a much better course. I very much appreciate all the work done to improve Stillwaters. In the past and prior to the current operators, it was in terrible shape and not worth anywhere close to what they charged. We didn't get the membership because we are not there much in the winter but if we lived there year round we would probably do it. But right now it doesn't make sense.
I feel for the property owners that bought a home believing they were getting a house on a golf course. However, this isn't a new problem with golf course developments and obviously the current operators are not the ones that created this problem. They have taken on quite a task and unfortunately it sounds like it has become financially untenable for them to continue with the status quo. So in the hope of staying afloat they are considering a very difficult decision. Owners will have to decide if they want to derail the restructuring but they may find that by doing so they will make things worse. Easy for me to say and I can certainly understand whatever they decide to do in light of this current news.
