I'm thinking you really would have enjoyed growing up here in the South.   Northerners have so much trouble believing us when we say that our slaves were happy & content.    Afterall, we counted each one as 5/12 of a person.   After the Civil War we kept life simple for them by using laws to keep them from voting or going to decent schools.  It was for their own good, you know.

Before this crazy Civil Rights stuff, life was good for our ex-slaves and there is no reason to remember it otherwise.
