That is really an interesting rap. And like most rap, there is a lot of truth in it.
The other night, I watched "Do the Right Thing" again. It was one the Spike Lee "joints". If you aren't familiar with the story line: Sal, is an Italian American who runs a pizza place in a black neighborhood. Been there for a really long time with no problem, got along with all the blacks and had a black guy working for him. He has a "Hall of Fame" of Italian American baseball players on the wall of his restaurant. So one black guy comes in and starts asking him why there are no blacks on his wall when all his customers are black. He has another black guy who walks around with a boombox playing rap and Sal tells him to turn it off and eventually takes a bat to it. Well, then these two guy start trying to convince the neighborhood to boycott Sal's Pizza. At first, no one wants to listen, but eventually they do and it starts to escalate, until someone decides to burn down his restaurant. During the conflagration, the guy with the radio is killed. So you are left with a guy with no business and a dead black guy. He ends the movie with a quote from MLK on peace and one from Malcolm X on violence.
I saw the movie when it came out in the 80s. And watching it again, it reminded me how little some things have changed.
I had never heard of the term "woke" until last summer's riots. But now, if you don't agree with everything BLM and other black organizations say, you aren't "woke" and you must be a racist.
