When all the different FB pages with supposed "Lake Martin interests" this site started a downhill tragectory.  But to me the FB pages have very little useful posts, mostly just folks advertising to to get business, and God forbid if you ask for a recomendation, You don't get folks telling you how great there guy is, you get the guys themselves telling you how great they are.  And of course all thier family will pop in to tell you how great they are.

I was looking for a contractor to build a seperate guest quarters at our Airbnb. I gave basic info such as size of structure, a one room effeciency freestanding building dried in. I would do the finish work myself Some wanted more details, pics of the site, etc.  After I pushed back on a couple of folks it erupted in vile posts.  Folks saying they would never take a job from me becuae obviously I would be horrible to work for, I guess because I expect accountabillity.  It was a thing that went on for days. Literally, I got dozens of "call me" posts and lots of folks telling me how great they are, but only a couple ever even showed up to look at the job.

But there was one response that got my attention and the job because he sent me an estimate for what I had asked for that excluded any site prep work, becuase he had no idea what the site looked like.  The price was great so I contacted him and he wanted to come and inspect the site and actually suggested something I had not though of, which was putting it on stilts instead of block foundation.  We talked and I hired him.  Unfortunately we had a slight problem with septic that has to be addressed so we put that on hold for now.

But since his price was so good I aks him to bid a job at our house.  I needed to tear out and replace the back wall of my house and a new porch.  There were rot issues so it was easier to replace than repair.  They gave an excellent price and I gave them the job.  I had been plannnig to do it later in the year but went forward right away.  The back wall has been replaced and a very nice porch added as well, for a LOT less than I had anticipated.  They were so good and reasonable I hired them to build a new seawall and boathouse.  Since then he has done several jobs for freinds and neighbors too.  

So I know they will never see this, but if some of those "contactors whom I am supposed to just trust" could see the amount and scpoe of work we have had done in the past year I'm sure they would regret being so dismissive to some rando on FB who wanted honest work for honest pay.  I have a couple of other projects that I will hire David for in the future, we just have to give the ol' wallet a break for a while right now.

I also forgot to mention that they were painters who got into construction also, so if you need a painter I highly reccomend these guys.  Tell him his favorite customer gave you the number.  He will know who you are talking about.  He says that not jsut because of the amount of work we have given him, but also because we treat them very well in many ways.
