The Dadeville Record record reported on new shoreline development guidelines to begin in July. Some measures are pretty astounding! I thought, at first, that it was an April Fool's issue...but apparently not. I will attempt to post a link to the article here but, in case it does not work, I will list the main points here:
1. All new shoreline building (seawalls, piers, pier add-ons, boat houses, etc) will require a $250 permit starting in July. This applies to all
improvements but not to repairs.
2. When you sell, the buyer is reponsible for forking over another $250
as a transfer fee....this, to me, is double-dipping and excessive!
3. Business permits will run in the $1000 range.
4. ALL new seawalls must be done with rip-rap!!....this is where I thought it was an April's Fool' s joke!
5. Violators will have 2 options--either tear it down or pay a fine!
6. Enforcement to include satellite surveillance!!....gotta be April Fools...but apparently not!
