Finished building our home on the lake in 2000 and had terrific Martin colonies for 13 years.  Seven years there after, only occasional visitors but no nesting birds. (Auburn ornithology guys  told me they had similar reports and attributed it to flight pattern shift.)  We were delighted to have a couple of nesting pairs arrive in late may year, producing 4 baby birds and departing early this month.  I'm curious if anyone else had returning purple martins?
