I don't get the spay/neuter thing either. I think it is responsible pet ownership to have animals spayed/neutered. I see an awful lot of intact males around. I know some people think that it is "natural" to let animals mate. There are good health reasons to spay and neuter, as well as behavioral benefits.
The Whole Dog Journal is great. They have a Feline version too.
Some of the companies that we think of as being "good" food is full of fillers and melamie from China. You may remember that there was a real problem with cat and dog foods last year. Some of the companies claimed to have cleaned up their acts, but did not in reality.
And while we're on the subject, it's really important to make sure that your animals are innoculated and get their heart worm.
My sister unfortunately learned her lesson too late, when her GSP fell over dead from heart worms last year at age 8.
