I read several articles this morning with people close to him stating that Trump is "mentally unreachable" at this point and has convinced himself that the election was stolen from him. What he did to incite the violence in the Capitol yesterday is evience of someone that has turned the mental corner. While I admire and will continue to admire his willingness to take on issues that others had dodged, and for the good he did early on in his Administration, I believe he has turned a corner mentally and I do question his fitness for duty for the next days until the inauguration. My hat is off to Mike Pence, for doing the mature thing - explaining to Trump that he didn't have the authority to overturn the election, and then leading the Congressioal Certification yesterday.
People are wanting to compare the riots and protests of last summer to this incident yesterday, but while they were both wrong, they are not the same thing. This insurrection yesterday was an attack on the Constitution and an attack on the very heart of our government.
I'm not happy that our government will be run by Democrats, because I believe that our government works best when reasonable people from both parties are part of the leadership team. We need a drag on the more outlandish ideas that satisfy a short term, but in the long term may not be feasible or good for the country. Hopefully, some of our lazy-ass representatives will start to do their jobs. In fact, that may be the silver lining of yesterday's attack - perhaps it will shake members of the House and Senate out of their party politics stupor, and get them back to doing what they are supposed to do.
I undestand that many on this forum will ignore or violently disagree with me, but that is okay.
