Please define an "assault type weapon". Until politicians and anti-gun people got into the fray, an assault rifle was a select fire weapon that was chambered for an intermediate cartridge. Select fire means it can operate in two (or more) different modes – autoloader (semi-automatic), automatic (fully automatic) and/or burst fire. The intermediate cartridge refers to something like 5.56 X45 or 7.62 X 39, NOT 7.62 X 51, or 7.62 X 54. An M14 - even though it is select fire - is NOT an assault rifle – it is a battle rifle.
In the past (the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban), part of the verbiage limited firearms that "were able to accept a detachable magazine", and looked like this (had listed features). I do not see it as a stretch at all for the definition to morph into “a semi-automatic firearm that is capable of accepting a magazine that holds more than 10 rounds”. All of a sudden, every autoloader with a detachable magazine is an assault weapon. If you have a 1911 chambered in 45 ACP and ONLY have 7 – 10 round magazines, then you would not be impacted yet. You may have heard that saying “as California goes, so does the country”… Do you consider the gun control laws of that state to be common sense? If you have a 1911 with a threaded barrel, it is already an assault weapon in California.
It is a felony to lie on a 4473 (background check form you fill out when buying a firearm). A felony… So, because it is that serious; and we are trying to keep guns out of the wrong hands, we prosecute ALL prohibited persons who attempt to buy a firearm – right? Welllllll. No, we don’t. In 2009 more than 71,000 cases were referred to U.S. attorneys and of that number, there were 77 prosecutions. This should be like picking apples off of a tree, but the Government chooses not to protect us… The universal background checks sound relatively innocuous, but they are not being pushed to keep firearms out of the wrong hands, they are wanted so that there are records of where EVERY firearm is – registration. And registration will lead to uh… Mandatory buybacks. There, I used the liberal phrase.
As an aside - apparently, WMA ranges no longer allow targets that resemble a human... No B-27's, no zombie targets.... LOL, what the he77 is happening???
