Saw an article recently that 13 counties in Alabama restarted a work requirement to be eligible for food stamps. I know this will shock our left wing nut friends but those counties saw an 85% drop in enrollment for food stamps when this requirement was put in place. The irony of this is far too delcious to ignore. Much like the state of Wisoconsin saw when they changed their welfare requirements, many people on these programs will voluntarily leave them if in fact it requires that they actually have to earn their benefits. These programs violate basic principals of human nature. I have long believed based on facts, logic and reason that these programs harm many of the very people they are intended to help. They are widely abused by otherwise able bodied Americans who can work but choose not to because they are corrupted by a system that breeds generational dependence on government for something they could, if properly motivated, provide for themselves. Welfare, food stamps and other similar programs should exist to help people through a rough patch in life. They should not be a means to live off the backs of hard working, productive members of society. Sadly, they have become a cynical vote buying scheme much like public sector unions are a money laundering scheme by Democrats.
