Hi Y'all,

-I'm sending this post on behalf of the Smith Lake Advocacy group welcoming you to join our semi-annual lake cleanup and annual picnic next weekend.

-WHAT: Cleaning up our great lake! (..it might not be one of the commonly recognized five Great Lakes, ...but what the heck, we think it's pretty great!)

-WHEN: Thursday-Saturday, June 11-13. Come join us every day, ...or 1 day, ....or a half day. We can use all the volunteers we can get any time we can get them!

-WHERE: We'll meet about 8:30 AM each day at Clear Creek Recreational Area. From there we'll have pontoon boats and barges to take groups out along the lake shoreline to pick up large pieces of styrofoam and other debris. We'll also use smaller boats to take groups of people out to certain sloughs to pick up trash. We'll need other people to remain at Clear Creek to help unload the boats. That's a lot of people, so please volunteer.

-WHO: You, me, him, her, other members of Smith Lake Advocacy group, and anyone else you would like to bring. This effort is also sponsored and supported by people and boats from the Bankhead National Forest and Alabama Power. Everyone who has a boat and would like to use it in this effort is welcome. Also we could use a few people on Personal Water Craft to scout out areas for trash and then guide the bigger pontoon barges to the areas for pickup. Winston County is also helping by providing loaders and trucks to stack and haul the trash away.

-WHY: because we all love our lake and want to keep it as a wonderful place for us and our families to enjoy today and for many years to come.

-BONUS: Our annual picnic will be held on Saturday afternoon (June 13), 1200-???? to thank all of you for helping during the clean-ups throughout the year. All the food and drinks will be provided. Just bring your tired bodies and get them refreshed. It's a chance to meet old and new friends who, like you, are interested in advocating for the preservation of Smith Lake!

If you have any questions, please contact:
-Allison at 205-489-5111
-Linda at lratk@bellsouth.net or 205-387-9999;
-LaVerne at lmatheson67@hughes.net or 256-747-4422

-Again, come on out and join with a group of people who not only enjoy our lake but are also willing to give a little time and effort to keep it the great place it is today.
